Dive into the beauty and science of our local waterways without leaving your living room! The Parramatta River Catchment Group and Australian Environmental Education are bringing back RiverFest Online on Tuesday, 22 September, offering a full day of free, live virtual excursions designed for all ages.
Part of the broader annual Riverfest celebration running from World Clean Up Day to World Rivers Day. RiverFest invites our community to connect, learn, and help care for the Parramatta River, its tributaries, and the surrounding environment.
10am: Where the River meets the Sea
Explore the interactions between the land and sea. Eighty-five percent of Australians live within 50km of the coast. This session looks at the waste that washes downstream in our catchments, the impacts it has on our estuaries, wetlands and coastal areas where the rivers meets the sea.
Whether you’re a curious student, a passionate local, or just looking for a fun way to celebrate World Rivers Day, tune in to discover how we can all play a role in keeping our waterways healthy and thriving.
11am: The Story of Water
Follow the journey of water down the river through the catchment to the sea. Water is essential for all forms of life and the small amount of available freshwater create competing pressures for our water resources.
Different land uses in a catchment have different impacts out our precious water resources. Discover the impacts of land clearing, agriculture and urbanisation on our waterways.
1pm: The Story of Water
Test your environmental knowledge and compete for bragging rights during a fun mid-day break. During the 30 minute sessions you can test your knowledge between classes, colleagues or family member, everyone is welcome.

Water is the most common substance found on earth, so why is it important? Water is essential for all forms of life and can dissolve nearly anything. It can exist as a gas (water vapour and steam), a liquid (water) and a solid (ice). It is these unique chemical properties of water make it crucial for all life on earth.
